Bank of the Islands’ Team of 30 Joins SCCF’s Coastal Cleanup
The Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands team volunteered to help SCCF ( the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation) complete a very successful Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, September 19. A team of 30 banker volunteers and their families wore masks and stayed socially distant while tackling Sanibel’s beaches.
“We are so grateful to the Edison/Bank of the Islands team,” said SCCF Events/Facilities Manager Jeff Siwicke who coordinates the annual community event. “When we see their blue t-shirts coming every year, we know they’ll do a great job of keeping our beaches free from trash and wildlife-harming debris like fishing lines.”
The local Coastal Cleanup efforts are coordinated in partnership by SCCF and Keep Lee County Beautiful as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup. According to the Ocean Conservancy, 10.5 million volunteers have cleaned 350,000 miles of shoreline collecting 192 million pounds of trash in the more than three decades of this international effort.
Bank of the Islands, a name synonymous with island community banking since 1974, is located at 1699 Periwinkle Way, at the corner of Casa Ybel Road, on Sanibel. The Captiva office is at 14812 Captiva Drive, next to the Captiva Post Office. As the oldest locally owned and managed community bank on the islands, Bank of the Islands is proud to be the winner of 44 “Best of the Islands” awards since 1999, including being chosen the Best Island Bank for 21 years straight.
