Bankers Collect Trash and Host Coastal Cleanup Volunteer Lunch

The Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands team volunteered to help SCCF (the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation) complete a very successful Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, September 21. Banker volunteers cleaned beaches on Sanibel before hosting a luncheon for all the 415 volunteers cleaning trash on Sanibel and Captiva.

Led by President Robbie Roepstorff and CEO Geoff Roepstorff, the Bank’s team of 37 included employees and their families. They joined another 378 other volunteers from Sanibel, Captiva, Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Lehigh. The Cleanup, which lasted about two hours, cleared 1,180 pounds of trash and debris off local beaches and shorelines. Everything from cigarette butts, construction materials, balloons, fishing line, plastic packaging and more were collected and removed.

“This is such an important annual event for our banking family,” said Robbie Roepstorff. “It means so much to all our staff to work together as we give back to our Lee County community. We all had a great time for a great cause once again this year!”

The local Coastal Cleanup efforts are coordinated in partnership by SCCF and Keep Lee County Beautiful as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup. According to the Ocean Conservancy, 18 million volunteers have cleaned 350,000 miles of shoreline collecting more than 380 million pounds of trash in the 30+ years of this international effort.
