Bank Partners with SCCF and Sanibel School for Earth Day
Bank of the Islands President Robbie Roepstorff is pleased to announce the results of its recent Earth Day partnership with SCCF (the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation) and the Sanibel School.
On April 22, SCCF Environmental Educator Richard Finkel and Bank V.P. David Lowden joined the School’s 4th grade class in a re-greening project on the Pick Preserve. The Bank underwrote the purchase of 500 pots of Spartina grasses for the students and adult volunteers to plant on the Pick Preserve. Those salt-tolerant marsh plants will provide a more resilient landscape to support interior wetland species such as freshwater turtles and marsh rabbits.
“We have enjoyed such longstanding and meaningful relationships with both SCCF and the Sanibel School over many years and in many different ways,” said Roepstorff. “Being able to come together for this special Earth Day event was both memorable for the students and a positive step forward for our island community’s continuing hurricane recovery.”
Named for the late Tom and Sue Pick who gifted SCCF the 26 acres of land directly across from the Sanibel School, the Pick Preserve has long served as an outdoor classroom for environmental education.
